Outer Circles
|

| After playing on the dislocated keyboard of a smashed piano, performing on a concert grand amplified harp and using rock’en roll electronics gadgets, composing by using only few pitches for a choir or brass, highly eclectic Victoria Jordanova offers this time a “Sound Sculpture” of her own voice. From the liner notes by Jody Dalton: “Outer Circles was conceived as a never-ending soundtrack to a proposed memorial at Ground Zero in lower Manhattan. Just as a memorial usually lists the names of the deceased, carved in stone, the text of Outer Circles is the alphabetical names of the dead, spoken and sung by Jordanova. Behind its hazy and muted surfaces, there is a clear mysticism, itself a reflection of the spirituality at the heart of all of Jordanva’s music. It’s good to consider Outer Circles on its own terms and the listener is encouraged to play the disc before reading further into the origin of the piece." |
